Battery Backup Options (when using external power)

Can you leave batteries in your door opener when using external power to act as a backup in the case of power outages?

Updated over a year ago

Some models have battery backup ability in order to keep your settings saved in the case of a power outage, while others do not.

All-in-one units are unfortunately not able to use a battery backup.

Mark-4 and Mark-5 devices mostly have this ability, but there are a few exceptions. Click on one of the collapsible options below for more information.

Mark-4 Models

In most mark-4 models (Standard, Premium, Extreme), your batteries can be left inside the battery box to act as a backup in the case of a power outage.

Depending on the type of power outage, however, your settings may not all remain saved. So, in the case of a power outage, your clock will need to be re-set, and your unit may require recalibrating.

Your Open settings and Close settings will always remain as you set them.

Some very old versions of this generation cannot utilise a battery backup, due to the battery connector clip being used to channel power through from the power cable.

See photo showing the power post on the circuit board of these units:

Mark-5 Models

To keep your settings saved in the case of a power outage, a CR1220 lithium cell battery can be inserted into a slot on the side of the battery box in mark-5 models (S5, P5, X5, Pro).

CR1220 batteries provide 3v to the unit, which is enough power to store your settings in its memory if power is lost. Your calibration, Open settings, Close settings, and Clock time should all remain as you set them.

If you suspect there has been a power outage, it may still be worth completing a new calibration, to be sure the door will work as expected.

If you are not sure what options you might have for your unit, please contact customer support with a photo of your unit and they will be happy to advise further.
