"Err" when taking a LUX reading

Learn what it means when "Err" appears in place of a number value when taking a light reading in LUX Adjustment.

Updated over a year ago

Why does this Error appear?

If you receive "Err" in place of a number value when taking a reading in LUX Adjustment, this means that your unit is set to use an external light sensor instead of the built-in sensor. Therefore, it is looking for something that is not there, and gives an error.

External light sensors are currently not available to purchase, but this is something that we are hoping to offer in the future.

How can you stop the error appearing?

To turn off the External Light Sensor option, please follow these instructions:

  • Press the menu button to wake the screen

  • Press the menu button once to enter the Settings Menu

  • Press the down button 5 times to get to "Misc Settings", selecting this option using the menu button

  • Navigate to "Ext Light Sensor" and select by pressing the menu button

  • Select "NO" using the down button

Your Door Opener will now use the internal light sensor to read the light level instead of looking for an external sensor.

What if the Ext Light Sensor setting does not appear in Misc Settings?

If the Ext Light Sensor option does not appear inside "Misc Settings", then you may have a 2023 model, and the setting wil instead be located in the "Secret Menu".

Please follow the below instructions:

  1. Press the menu button to wake the screen

  2. Press and hold the menu button for 5+ seconds until you see "Continue?"

  3. Select “YES” using the up button

  4. Use the up or down button to scroll to "Ext Light Sensor", using the menu button to select this option

  5. Select "No" using the down button

  6. If the screen does not now display "Exit", use the up button to scroll until you do see "Exit"

  7. Press the menu button to select this option and return to the home screen

The "Ext Light Error" will now no longer appear.
